Visual Comfort Hallway Lamps

Worth it, both functionally and visually. A hallway lamp gives soft welcome light at night, useful when guests arrive or when you walk through at low ambient hours. The lamp also fills a console visually, otherwise the console reads as a tabletop with nothing on it. Pick a 45-60 cm tall lamp on a 100-130 cm console.

For a 120 cm console, a single lamp 55-65 cm tall placed slightly off-centre, or two smaller lamps 40-50 cm tall flanking a central object (mirror, bowl, art piece). Avoid lamps over 70 cm or shade diameter over 40 cm on a 120 cm console, they overpower the surface.

For long narrow hallways, choose tall slim lamps (60-75 cm tall, shade diameter under 30 cm) on a console or shelf. Avoid wide drum shades or low chunky lamps, they make the hallway feel tighter. Column and stick-style table lamps work best. A single lamp at the far end or one each side of the entry door creates depth.
