Sconces work as flanking pieces beside a fireplace, on either side of a sofa, framing artwork, or as accent layer in alcoves. Mount centre at 150-160 cm from the floor, 30-40 cm from the artwork or feature. Use them as the third lighting layer alongside chandelier and table lamps.

If your chandelier is aged brass, your sconces should be brass-toned but can be a slightly different shade (polished brass, lacquered brass). If the chandelier is matte black, sconces in matte black or aged iron both work. Mixing brass and chrome in the same room usually fails.

Aim for 3-5W LED per sconce for accent layer, 6-10W LED if the sconce is the only light source on that wall. Always dimmable. Living room sconces should never be the brightest fixture in the room, that role belongs to the chandelier or floor lamp.
