A flush mount sits directly against the ceiling with no gap, ideal for ceilings under 2.4 m or when you need maximum head clearance. A semi-flush mount hangs 10-25 cm below the ceiling, adding more decorative presence and better light spread. For bedrooms and hallways with standard Italian ceilings (2.7-3 m), semi-flush is the most flexible choice.

Flush mounts work on any ceiling 2.2 m and above, since they only take 8-15 cm of vertical space. Semi-flush models need at least 2.5 m to leave proper head clearance. Italian building code requires a minimum 2.4 m ceiling in living areas, so most rooms accommodate both. For very low attic rooms, stick to true flush mounts.

Add the room dimensions in metres and multiply by 7-8 to get the ideal diameter in centimetres. A 4x4 m bedroom needs roughly a 55-60 cm fixture. Yes, but only damp-rated models (IP44 or higher) are suitable for bathroom installation outside of the shower zone. For installation directly above a bath or shower (Zone 1), an IP65 fixture is required. For a kitchen island or dining table, [Pendants] or a small [Chandeliers] are the better choice — they sit at the right height (75-90 cm above the surface) and create a focused task light. Flush mounts work best as general kitchen ceiling lighting in combination with island pendants, or as the main fixture in compact kitchens under 10 m² where a pendant would feel too low. We often pair 2-3 pendants over the island with a flush mount in the rest of the kitchen.
