What's the right height for a reading sconce next to the bed?

For bedside reading, mount the sconce so the bottom of the shade or arm pivot sits 95-110 cm from the floor, which puts the light source roughly at shoulder height when you are seated upright in bed. Swing-arm models like Boston Functional or Hanover let you adjust position after install.

Do I need an electrician for a plug-in reading sconce?

No. Plug-in reading sconces come with a cord and standard EU plug, simply mount the bracket to the wall (anchor and screw), then plug into the nearest outlet. The cord runs along the wall and can be hidden behind a cord cover or routed behind furniture. No electrician needed.

Will a plug-in cord look ugly on the wall?

Not if you plan. Use a fabric-wrapped cord (Visual Comfort plug-in sconces ship with these), route it down behind furniture, or use a cord cover painted to match the wall. For installations on a feature wall with no furniture, fabric cord becomes part of the design rather than a problem.
