Aerin Lauder Lighting

Aerin Lauder is an American designer and entrepreneur. She is the granddaughter of Estée Lauder. In 2012 she founded her own brand, AERIN.

Her partnership with Visual Comfort & Co. started in 2010. She was one of the first designers to build a full lighting line with the brand. Today her portfolio spans chandeliers, table lamps, sconces and pendants. More than a dozen named collections carry her name.

Her design philosophy is simple: beauty in the everyday. Each fixture is finished by hand. Materials come from small workshops. The style references her homes in East Hampton, Paris and the Amalfi coast.

Aerin s lighting is soft, warm and hand-finished. It sits in a different register from other Visual Comfort designers.

Three qualities define the look:

• Curved silhouettes. Arms sweep, bases are turned or bell-shaped. Hard right angles are rare.
• Warm finishes. Gild, hand-rubbed antique brass, polished nickel, burnished silver leaf. Finishes catch light instead of reflecting it flat.
• Natural materials. Alabaster, hand-blown glass, hand-carved plaster, linen shades. Every piece feels tactile.

Compared with a Kelly Wearstler pendant, Aerin reads quieter and more residential. Compared with a Chapman & Myers chandelier, Aerin feels softer and less architectural.

If you want a room to feel calm and layered, start with Aerin. If you want a statement piece, look at Kelly Wearstler instead.

1. Bristol. Turned brass columns, hand-blown glass shades. The signature Aerin table lamp. Warm, sculptural, easy to place.
2. Vendome. Alabaster and hand-cast brass. Chandeliers and pendants named after the Paris square. Formal but not heavy.
3. Yves. Gilded iron with linen shades. The most editorial piece in her portfolio. Works as the single statement fixture in a room.
4. Cristol. Cut-crystal sconces on polished nickel or gilded frames. A modern take on the French bathroom sconce.
5. Adeline. Faceted glass and hand-rubbed brass table lamps. Soft art-deco silhouette, not a hard geometric revival.
