Leather

Leather lighting is the fixture that carries the same craft signal as a good briefcase or a saddle, so the object reads as an artisan piece rather than an industrial part. Every wall sconce, chandelier, pendant, table lamp, floor lamp, picture light and linear pendant in this selection is hand-wrapped in full-grain leather over cast brass, bronze or polished nickel armatures, so the light source picks up softness and patina where a metal fixture would stay cold. The full leather inventory is curated across Visual Comfort and Quintiesse, and covers the leather tones that define the category: saddle leather with visible tan, cognac leather with warm reddish glow, tuxedo black leather, chocolate leather and pale cream leather.

Everything you need to know about leather lighting

Leather in designer lighting is a finish and, on the better collections, a structural element: wrapped over a metal ring, stitched into a suspension strap or panelled into a shade. The sections below cover what distinguishes wrapped, saddle and panel leather; which Visual Comfort and Quintiesse collections lead the leather edit in Europe; and how to specify, bulb, install and care for a leather fixture so the material patinates well over the first ten years.

I was a little nervous when purchasing a large chandelier from VC Gallery Milan as this was my first purchase and a high value item. I took my time to make my decision. I placed my order at the end of March and received the item at the end of April. I dealt with Svetlana who made sure to keep in touch with me from start to finish. She also checked in once the item was delivered to see if everything was fine. It was a while before my electrician had the availability to install the chandelier. But once the item was installed I let Svetlana know that all parts were intact and installed. All in all I had a really positive experience. I would just say that sometimes the 14 days to raise any concerns post delivery may not be feasible for larger items that require trades people to unbox and install.
