How a Swan Italy order reaches you
Every Swan Italy piece is produced to your specification after your order is confirmed at VC Gallery. Once the frame is built, the cold-expanded polyurethane and feather-down cushions are prepared, the fabric or leather is laser-cut and tailored to your chosen configuration, and the piece is upholstered by hand, we prepare the shipment and coordinate delivery to your address across Europe. Because upholstered furniture logistics depend on volume, weight, protective wrapping, and destination, we quote each delivery individually. You receive a full quote before you commit, and tracking once the shipment is dispatched. Our Milan address at Via Filippo Turati 3 is our showroom, open by appointment for clients who wish to sit on the collections, test cushion firmness, feel fabric and leather samples, and see modular configurations in person.
Swan Italy is 100 percent Made in Italy certified since 2011, hand-crafted in the Mariano Comense workshop (Brianza, province of Como) with over 60 years of upholstered furniture experience. Pieces arrive ready for interior placement and do not require electrical adaptation. The catalog spans modular sofas such as Shan and Molvedo, iconic armchair references including Harvard and Chelsea, poufs and accessories, and bed collections designed for both residential and hospitality contexts. Since 2012, the art direction has been led by architect Francesco Lucchese, following a prior collaboration with Palomba Serafini Associati, and Swan Italy is present in around 60 countries worldwide with a track record in residential and contract projects.
How Swan Italy delivery is calculated
Swan Italy is made to order in premium fabric and leather with modular configurations, and every piece is different in volume, weight, and finish. There is no fixed rate. Delivery is quoted individually per project, based on four factors.
- Volume and weight Frame construction, cushion volume, modular section count, and total kilograms drive the freight class. A single Chelsea armchair travels very differently from a full Shan modular sectional with dormeuses, peninsulas, and matching poufs, and multi-element beds have their own volumetric profile that can require multiple wrapped units.
- Origin and packaging Every piece leaves Mariano Comense in a custom protective wrap with foam edge protection, corner blocks, plastic film, and moisture barriers designed for upholstered surfaces in transit; this is included in the quote and reflects the sensitivity of fabric weaves, leather grain, feather-down loft, and cushion firmness during handling.
- Destination Delivery to Italy and mainland European Union is straightforward. Islands, Switzerland, Norway, Ireland, and remote regions may need road-plus-ferry or dedicated freight, plus access checks for ZTL zones, narrow historic staircases, and buildings without lift, which matter more when moving large modular sofas and multi-element sectional configurations.
- Timeline A flexible delivery window often reduces cost. Sharing your target date early usually gives the best rate, and consolidated freight is more economical than dedicated single-project trucks. Expedited delivery aligned with a site installation window, common for hospitality contract, is available and priced separately.

Production time starts from order confirmation and can vary by piece complexity, level of modular configuration, fabric or leather sourcing, and cushion type. Bespoke dimensions, non-standard configurations, non-catalogue fabrics, or contract and hospitality orders may add time; this is confirmed on the SKU at order time. Sending your project details early always helps our production planning and often improves the delivery cost.
White Glove delivery
Swan Italy pieces are large, cushions can be delicate at feather-down loft, and modular sectionals often need on-site assembly with alignment between corner and end modules. White Glove service is available on request and covers everything from truck to final placement.
- Delivery to the room of your choice Not only to the door, but into the space where the piece will live, including stairs, tight corridors, and buildings without lift access, with the right equipment to handle large sectional elements and beds.
- Unpacking and inspection Protective wrap opened, plastic film and foam removed, every piece inspected for fabric weave, leather grain, stitching quality, cushion firmness, and any tear or stain, with concerns documented before we leave.
- Positioning and setup Placement on the chosen surface, felt pads applied under wooden or metal feet, cushions distributed, feather-down plumped, modular elements aligned corner by corner, and any additional pouf or accessory positioned to complete the configuration.
- Waste removal Protective wrap, foam, cardboard, and plastic film collected and disposed of responsibly.
White Glove is optional and quoted alongside the delivery cost, based on destination and access. It is available for every Swan Italy order across Europe and we strongly recommend it for multi-element modular sectionals such as Shan or Molvedo, full living-room ensembles combining sofa and armchairs, large-scale bed configurations, high-floor apartments without service lift, or any project involving multiple rooms of a residence or a hospitality installation. VAT on Swan Italy orders
Prices shown on VC Gallery include Italian VAT at 22 percent by default. On checkout, the total is recalculated according to the destination country under standard European Union rules. EU B2B clients with a valid VIES VAT number receive an invoice without VAT under intra-EU reverse charge. For non-EU destinations such as Switzerland or Norway, Italian VAT is removed and local import taxes apply on arrival, handled through the shipping documentation, on a DDP or DAP basis agreed at the quotation stage. Contract, hospitality, and trade orders receive a full VAT-adjusted quote at the offer stage. Full VAT and customs detail is confirmed on the invoice before you commit.
Customization and delivery
Swan Italy is a bespoke upholstered atelier by tradition, so customization is a core part of the offer. Fabric selection across Swan Italy's own textile library including linen, cotton, wool, velvet, chenille, and blended weaves; premium full-grain leather in a wide range of colours; feather-down or high-density cold-expanded polyurethane cushion filling; modular configuration for collections such as Shan and Molvedo including corner modules, end modules, dormeuses, peninsulas, and matching poufs; feet in matte black steel, chrome, satin aluminium, or wood on selected models; dimensions within the structural limits of the frame on selected collections; and complete bed and headboard configurations for residential and hospitality projects are all possible on many collections. Send us the SKU, the reference drawings, and your preferences, and we confirm what the workshop can produce and how it affects timing.
Bespoke orders typically add at least 2 weeks on top of standard production time. On larger projects (full living-room ensembles, hospitality lobbies with matching sofa families, or multi-room residential installations), we recommend planning delivery well in advance so the workshop can align fabric sourcing, cushion preparation, upholstery, and shipment. All lead times are confirmed before you commit.
What to do on delivery day
Swan Italy pieces are large, upholstered surfaces are sensitive to marks and stains, and modular configurations need careful alignment on arrival. Checking the shipment at delivery is essential.
- Photograph the outer wrap and any protective film before opening.
- If the wrap shows visible damage, open it in the presence of the driver.
- Check every surface under natural light for stains, tears, snags, or loose stitching, and inspect fabric weave, leather grain, cushion firmness, and feather-down loft.
- For modular sectionals and beds, verify all corner and end modules are present, feet or bases are intact, and no fixings or accessories are missing.
- Do not sign the delivery note as accepted until you are satisfied the piece is intact, and if damage is present, take photos and contact VC Gallery within 24 hours.
Why this matters. Transport insurance claims are honored only when damage is reported at delivery. If you sign the delivery note as accepted and inspect the piece later, proving in-transit damage becomes very difficult, and stains, tears, or crushed feather-down loft are very difficult to restore once the initial damage was not documented. If you have booked White Glove service, our delivery team performs the inspection with you and documents any issue on the spot.
Returns and claims
- Returns (change of mind) Swan Italy is produced to your specification in your chosen fabric or leather, configuration, cushion type, and dimensions, so there is no refund on change of mind. Please review fabric, leather, cushion firmness, configuration, and dimensions carefully before confirming the order. Our team can help by email or in the Milan showroom, and fabric and leather samples can be sent on request.
- Manufacturing defect Fabric flaw, leather defect, loose stitching, cushion firmness inconsistency, frame instability, or similar production issue. Send photos and describe the defect. Options: on-site repair by a specialist (we reimburse up to a project-specific limit) or full replacement of the affected element. Return shipping is free.
- Transport damage Stained fabric, torn leather, snagged weave, crushed cushions, broken feet, or misaligned modular sections discovered at delivery. Photograph and report immediately. We file an insurance claim with the carrier and arrange repair or replacement. Return shipping is free.
- Wrong item If VC Gallery or Swan Italy shipped the wrong SKU, fabric, leather, or configuration, we arrange free exchange. Return shipping is free.
